Gmod server "not responding" (resolved)
#1
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Processor: amd Athlon II X2 245 @ 2.90ghz
RAM: 4gb
Game: garry's mod
Startup command: srcds.exe -console -game garrysmod +map gm_construct +maxplayers 5 -ip 192.168.1.105 -port 27015

I've created a dedicated gmod server and followed the tutorial of this.

I have my ports forwarded as stated by the tutorial and shown in the attached picture.

I can connect to my server via LAN IP, but when I gave my friends the external IP address, 74.134.116.75:27015, they said the server is not responding and it is also not appearing on the master list.

I'm assuming the issue has something to do with the ports?

Have you tried switching the values?

For example,
from your picture the port goes 27015 to 27000?

What does it say at the top of the page?

Beginning-End
27015 to 27000

Should be

Beginning-End
27000 to 27015

Make sure the values go in chronological order. (ex. 1,2,3,4) (not 4,3,2,1)

I don't know if it will matter but it's worth a try lol.

Everything else looks fine as in port forwarding.

Here is a more showing picture of the ports. I made some changes as to what you suggested, but I haven't tried switching the ports around yet (outbound to inbound). I have made 2 exception rules in my kaspersky firewall to allow port 27015 TCP & UDP on the server. I have also allowed srcds.exe on the firewall. Restarted server and still no avail.

Also, there is no gmod link in the WRT150N router to tell me what entries to make. Would gmod be similar to HL 2 or CSS as far as port opening goes?

One other thing that concerns me. When I start the server, the server's command prompt shows me:
"BOpenService failed"
"ServiceStart: failed to start"
and
"banip.cfg not present; not executing"

Aside from all this I still see the message "Connection to steam servers successful"
Should this be something to worry about?

I think your port forwarding is wrong. If you look at your picture, your inputting the ports as "Single Port Forwarding" under external and internal ports.

Try clicking the "Port Range Forwarding" tab (if is possible) instead to input the ports. You've got to open the ports "ranging from two points" , it's not a single port. If it's just one port, just put 1200 for both beginning and ending port range.

Yeah, all the ports necessary to run the server are the same as HL2, CSS, and TF2 since they all use srcds.

UDP 1200 1200
UDP 26901 26901 (This will allow the server to show up on the master server list.)
UDP 27000 27015
TCP 27020 27039
UDP 27015 27015
UDP 27020 27020
TCP 27015 27015

As for the those errors, I tried researching and there wasn't really a definite solution. It could be all port forwarding related.

BAM, that was the solution there. My server is now on the master list. However, I had to change one detail. The port range UDP 27000 27015 covers UDP 27015 27015 so people might end up with an issue saying "port range already exist." I had this issue but I just excluded the UDP 27015 27015 range.

This issue is now resolved

Thanks for all your help Ghost Assassin!

First thing I would say to help: create a new post. This thread is nearly 2 years old.

That was very helpful even how many years passed.
