It doesn't matter what distro i use....the result is the same ! Anyway,i always press CTRL+ALT+F1 to disable graphic interface and then i run my HLDS server.I don't think this is important for stable FPS.
There was a ZEN Patch to kernel 2.6.24,it had very interesting options in compileing the kernel from 100 to 10 000 Hz.I tried that but it gives me BusyBox (dropping to a shell) when trying to boot
... maybe because the kernel is too old for Ubuntu 9.10 ...I'm running out of options,i have a good system for running a simple 24 slot hlds server,but stabilizing those FPS is something very hard to achieve...I use that linux booster posted here,it gives me 99.9 % CPU when running the server.I also tried resched.sh and idler witho NO effect at all !
