ContentServer rejected client session login
#1
I'm trying to command line update TF2 - it installed fine to my default location the first time like this:

Code:
C:\Games\Valve\HLServer>HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game tf -dir "C:\Gam
es\HL2MPDS"
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
ContentServer rejected client session login

As you can see, when I try to update (to get the new dustbowl map) it gives me "ContentServer rejected client session login" after is says it's starting the update.

So I created a new directory to try a fresh install since I know that worked for me when I installed it a day or 2 ago.

So I made a new directory called TF2DS thinking a fresh installed would work...

Code:
C:\Games\Valve\HLServer>HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game tf -dir "C:\Gam
es\TF2DS"
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
No installation record found at C:\Games\TF2DS/orangebox
ContentServer rejected client session login

Then I tried to update my HL2MP server to see if it was limited to TF2.

Code:
C:\Games\Valve\HLServer>HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game hl2mp -dir "C:\
Games\HL2MPDS"
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
ContentServer rejected client session login

It's not limited to TF2 :\ Also, it doesn't work if I leave off the -dir (I started out trying without -dir so it went directly to my last location which was c:\games\HL2MPDS)

if you add -retry to the updatetool commandline it will keep trying until it gets a connection going.
I know it sucks, but waiting really is all you can do.

-retry didn't seem to work, in the description it says for when the server is busy but this rejection message disconnects me right away and returns me to the C:/ prompt. Thanks though.

I was looking at the other update tool exe command parameters and thought I'd try my username/pass. Using those did the trick.

Hmm...I don't know why I had to do it this time since I didn't every time before.

Hmm that's real odd since the username/password authentication has been removed over a year ago.

I was having the same error, I deleted the following files (in the same folder as hldsupdate) and it started working. I don't know if it was fluke or not, but give it a try.

ClientRegistry.blob
HldsUpdateTool_20.mst

Hope that helps.

I think it has something to do computer related. The reason i say is i have tried on two different computers on my home network.
At first the server was updating about half way then i would get a socket error. (On Both computers)
1 of the computers i deleted the half update that it had installed before the error. Then i re-ran the upadate. i did this a few times on the same computer. Now i get the error you get on that computer.

The other computer has got about 95% finished and now it's getting the socket error.
But the first computer i was talking about still get the error you get.. ?? Sad

Please do not PM me for server related help
