SRCDS on XP limits 10 connections?
hey guys, I know windows xp only allows up to 10 share connections. Will that apply if I setup a dedicated server? Does that mean I can only do a 5 vs 5 action?

If I want to have more people, do I need to install this on a Windows 2003 server?

no, when i ran xp, i had more than 10 players connect.

That's what I was thinking but I do know there is a limit of file shares.
I think you are thinking of the limit on IIS which is something unrelated to SRCDS, so don't worry.

Windows XP has a TCP Limit of 10 connections. Or as of SP2, 10 concurrent connections per second. Windows XP is not meant to act as a server. Switch to Windows Server. Or you can apply a patch to remove the TCP Limit.
Many people run MANY SRCDS on XP. The 10 connections will not be a problem.

I have 3 servers running XP pro SP3.

One has HTTP, MySQL, FTP, few gameservers
the other 2 have gameservers and internal datastreaming for the complete network AND a gateway (also xp on the gateway).

I can assure you it's not a problem.

Yes, but the limit of 10 is still valid (XP SP3), all it does is add the overflow to the queue. If you increase the number of TCP/IP connections allowed at one time, your internet speeds up. Therefore you will notice a speed increase when you are downloading or playing online games. I recommend you to set the limitation to around 200 these days.
