Can I do this on the same com I have TF2 on? Or does it have to be a com that doesn't have TF2?
You can not (generally) run a Dedicated server on the same computer you are playing on. You will need a different computer.

if you've seen the any of the matrix movies, a game server is not all that different. it runs a version of the game that handles the entire world for each client connected.

Since I haven't seen the OP for a while I've made the changes:
Added // in front of the mp_clan_ready_signal and mp_clan_readyrestart
Added GTFO Gaming fast respawn tutorial to the Extra's
Oi....stopped by to check out the thread  Lots of comments!

Hi,
im setting up a LAN server i read the tut..it helped alot but at my house the internet is very slow so its taking a long time to download the files via hldsupdatetool.
am i able to download the map files from elsewhere and just copy or move them to the server directory? will the updatetool detect and skip the map (bsp) files the next time i run it?

If you copy them over, update the server with a -verify_all such as:
hlupdatetool.exe -command update -game tf -dir YOUR_DIR -verify_all

Hmmm i've tried setting up the serv based on the tut and it seems that a couple people connected to it whilst it was up, but when trying to see if my friends could access it they said it just came up with server not responding and that was it. I've tried entering the serv from my other pc and it seems to work then but friends are still having trouble, any help please?
