can u tell me about how to get more out of this, thx u , i dk what tick rate is , or ping boost.
maximum players you will be able to host is 8 players @ 30tick (standard)

512k up is just not enough for more players.

you need a new connection to host more playerslots.
(my own server has PIII 933MHz, 650MB memory and it can run 2 16 player servers so dont worry about your pc)

512k up you should be able to get atleast 12 players on.. with the server rates set kinda low. but it would be a decent server, you could probly get 66 tick even.. 33 tick is standard btw. that 12 players is granted you don't have a capped connection, some isps like to cap connections, so that will greatly reduce the number of players you can host.
yeh srry 33 tick, i hate it why they use 33, 66 etc. I just use round numbers, 30, 60 and 100.

anyways my server runs at 512kbps up and it hits the full 512 when i host one more slot at 8 players (33tick)

lol yea it is kinda od that its 33, and 66, but then 100.. I'm sure theres some logical reason, but I don't know it.. and my upload I had a stable about 400 k, and I could host 12 people, with pings under 110, and zero lag. It was a 66 tick server as well. Only time pings jumped was when someone started downloading a map.

I will note though, be sure thats actually what your connection is, I know my isp SAYS my connection is a lil over 512, or right around it.. something like that. But if I run a internet speed check, its not anywhere near that. When they tell you how fast the upload is, they don't expect you to actually ever figure out what exactly it is, the common internet surfer only cares about download.. ya know for all them bit-torrent files Toungue they don't really care about upload. A lot of people don't even know the difference between upload and download, which is kinda funny.. but thats another story Big Grin
Well i actually meter the bandwidth constantly and it reaches full 512 as it should.

But i'm in need of more player slots so where did you put sv_maxrate to etc?

srry for offtopic

right now I can't remember what exactly I had the maxrate set at and stuff, I don't currently have the server up because other things tied up my bandwidth, lol. It was low though, I think something like 7000 or something. minrate was set at like 3000 I think. maxupdaterate at 70 for the 66 tick, + a little. Basically I just messed with things for a while until it all worked how I wanted it, lol.

What do you use to monitor your bandwidth? currently I am looking into doing that, right now I use nagios to monitor all my computers, it just doesn't do bandwidth (unless I just haven't found the right plugin yet Toungue) I started to install cacti, but haven't gotten to finish it yet.
Well I have a standard bandwidth monitor in my ADSL Modem which is very accurate.
I also have Sygate firewall running which has a built in Bandwidth monitor, however it's real messy so i hardly use it.
Another is a program, not free, 30 day trial or so. I really like it alot and it's called DU-Meter it's a small program which counts ALL bandwidth on daily basis and monthly, pretty much everything you want.

hmm.. well from what i understand thats what cacti does, and it makes graphs of all the bandwidth used by anything you want it to. i just have to figure out how to set it up Wink
