About 2 years ago I had a successful standalone Counter-Strike: Source server running on a Windows XP, Pentium 4, 256MB machine (and then later a test server on a Linux box, irrelevant). Downloaded HLDSUpdateTool from Steam's server, ran it and acquired the CS:Source files, built a basic (no mods installed) server.cfg, and let it run. Worked quite well, rotated some custom maps through that my friends and I had built (2 friends with rcon password and FTP access to my xtra PC).
Fast forward (today): Went for a real basic starting point. Running Windows 2000 (SP4), Pentium III, over 1/2 gig of RAM (had a surplus of sticks from retired PCs at my old job). Downloaded the HLDSUpdateTool, got the server files [and re-updated]
Try to launch the application C:\Program Files\Valve\HLServer\cs_source\srcds.exe either as GUI or console and NOTHING happens, not even a cough from my PC. Any immediate ideas/issues come to mind? Will provide various cfgs/system info by suggestion/request.
