Hey,
I've tried a lot of things to have a Source TV and not have the FPS drops. Without the source tv I have consistent 994/995 FPS with 10 players. But when Source TV comes in, the FPS become unstable when players are playing. The FPS drops to 200, 300 at times.
So I was wondering if anyone has any input on this so I can stabilize my FPS.
I am using CentOS 5.2.

fps_max 300
Here comes things on one seems to want to talk about...
To be really honest I don't think anyone really can tell the difference ~200fps or 1000fps in a server as long as updates/sec are capped to max 100. What is most important is consistency on both clients and servers and for the fps to be at least 100 and never go under that.
1000fps is off course fun to brag about and to achieve, but if it really makes any difference on game play I don't know.
I've tested different lower fps_max (200-300) on my clan mates (without telling them) just to see if anyone reacts, but no one ever does. They still think my server is the best they ever played on.
The hype about 1000fps is a myth which hosting companies like because
it sells more servers.
I believe there are other things that you should focus on in the kernel to get a good game server.

That's what I think too, I'm looking for a good kernel somewhere for my 1000 FPS server (two of them) but can't find one. The drops actually make a huge difference in tickrate/gameplay. The tickrate drops dramatically when the FPS drops, and the pings spike up too ocassionally.

sourcetv causes fps instability. I dont know what causes it or how to fix it. I think its just the way it is.

I know it's supposed to drop it to 985, but there are users who have achieved it to be STABLE in the 900 range. I used to have this, but no longer works.
Now it's unstable dropping to 200, 300, 500, etc which causes drops in tick.

Like I posted in the other section, I will be making a tut. So other people can learn how to do this them self. I posted a link showing how I did most of the work. Mine still has a few bugs in it that need to be worked out. Once I get everything 100% I will post it.

This problem has been driving me up the wall, with sourcetv enabled fps are like a roller coaster anywhere from 990 down to 50 at times! With it disabled fps never dip below the 980's. This is with a 2.6.26.6rt kernel with each server process set to realtime priority on a dual quad xeon.
