How to get srcds_run, not hlds_run?
#1
I've tried just about every way I've seen posted (threads and tutorials) to run the ./steam -command update, but every time I'm left with hlds_run, not srcds_run. I see alot of people on various forums with this problem.

The updater appears to run fine, no compression errors, using the proper steam update tool, all other files are downloaded properly... but I'm always left with hlds_run

What cmd or param and I missing here?

I tried to follow the tutorial here, via hldsupdatetoolbin, but when I try to run it, I simply get
sh: line 1: uncompress: command not found
Broken pipe

(this is shell to an FC2 box)

Thanks in advance

Code:
yum install ncompress

or
Code:
ln -s /bin/gunzip /bin/uncompress

also, make sure you use the switch
Code:
-game "Counter-strike Source"
quotes and all. id you previous install cs 1.6 intentionally? i.e. you made say hlds_l to install half-life 1 based games? if so, try this
Code:
rm -rf ~/.steam

unintentionally.
I've attempted a complete clean and re-update, downloading now, although I made sure the params fr ./steam update were all proper... I have to assume I'm doing something very basic incorrectly, but I'll see when this update finishes, thanks.

Thanks, yeah, I finally did a clean sweep and it installed properly. I think I used an incorrect binary originally (too many "how to" posts with sketchy info on what binary was what), and it was leaving legacy records somewhere.

Thanks, working properly now.
(the install did anyway, not to debug running the server... sigh)
