TF2 Connection Help
#1
After searching through the forums I still haven't been able to solve the problem I've been having. Let me first say that I have been able to successfully make a HL2DM server, and have people download the files and join. Soon after I really got interested into TF2, and wanted to make a server. I downloaded the required files and pretty much set up the server the same way as the HL2DM one, but no one can join. They get the error, "Failed after 4 retries", or something similar to that.

This brings me to my first question, does any one know how to solve this problem considering I have a working HL2DM server?

The second question I have is can TF2 be installed in the same directory as HL2DM (i.e. C:\SRCDS)?

Thanks for any feedback.

Sounds like a firewall is blocking it.
Yes you can install to the same folder but remember that the srcds for TF2 is in \orangebox.

Thanks for the info, but if I am using the same ports for both HL2DM and TF2, why would the firewall interfere with one and not the other?

The servers are not running at the same time so port conflicts shouldn't make a difference.

EDIT: After doing some research using Google I found a forum where people were posting the same problems. Turns out they think a TF2 update messed up connection issues to servers.

that was ages ago.
But you can't host two servers off the same port at the same time.

Yes I understand that, and I am not hosting the two servers at the same time, I'll edit the ports for TF2 and post back if it works.
