Hello everyone,

We're opening a game server company and we really do not have the creative minds needed to produce a unique company name.

We will be hosting high performance game servers for games like Counter-Strike, Source, Call of Duty, TF2, and maybe even Americas Army. All HL1/HL2 (CS 1.6 and CS:Source) type games will be 1000 FPS and 100 Tickrate for the highest performance. However we won't be any ordinary game host, unlike most companies, we will own all of our server hardware. This will allow us to offer our servers at a cheaper price and remain as good as our competition (Companies like HiDef, Summit, NexGen, etc), and not only that, we'll be running linux with a fully optimized kernel for extreme performance.

Our server hardware will be the latest Intel Xeon Harpertown processors, providing a total of 8 CPU cores, with 8GB ram, and SCSI hard drives in RAID 1. And our OS/Kernel will be tweaked by certified professionals.

There's only 1 problem...

WE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO CALL OUR COMPANY!

We need your help!

We are looking for a name that has "Servers" or "Gaming" in it, such as "LowPing Servers" or "LowPing Gaming"

The name must meet the following criteria:
-Easy to remember, say, and spell
-Resembles high performance in some way, or resembles that our company is the best
-Has the word Servers OR Gaming in the company name
-Can not be too long (too many letters to spell)
-The company name must have a .com available and the .com can not contain any symbols such as a "-" (use godaddy.com to lookup available domain names, right on the main page)
-The name must be unique from any of our competitors (use google to search for past or present companies with a similar name)

AND MOST OF ALL! The name must be catchy, unique, and creative. Don't post something unoriginal like "Killer Servers", we're only looking for creative ideas here folks.

So now you're asking yourself, "What do I get for thinking of a name for your company?"
1st Place Prize: $75 Cash, 2-months of a 1000 FPS/100 Tickrate game server in Chicago or Dallas (Total value of $200)
2nd Place Prize: $25 Cash, 1-month of a 1000 FPS/100 Tickrate game server in Chicago or Dallas (Total value of $100)
3rd Place Prize: 1-month of a 1000 FPS/100 Tickrate game server in Chicago or Dallas (Total value of $75)

The names will be judged by the developers of this new company. When the "contest" is over, we will post the results and we can pay you via Paypal or the USPS (US Postal Service).

You're probably wondering if we'll take your name and not pay you, right?
Well, if we did that, we know you would tell all of your gaming friends what happened. And that wouldn't exactly help our sales, would it? We are not here to rip you off, we are legitimate, we'd rather keep a positive reputation in the gaming community. If you are in the top 3 names, you WILL receive a prize. The game servers will be online in July, and the cash prizes can be sent out immediately.

Well how do I enter this "contest" ?
Just submit a reply to this thread with your idea, and when we decide to end the "contest" we will post the results and contact everyone privately.

There is NO LIMIT to how many names each person can submit!

Some of our current ideas, to get you started... "Tweaked Servers" "Gaming Formula" "Rage Servers"

Well that about wraps it up, if you have any questions feel free to ask in this thread of send me a PM. Just start replying with name ideas when you've got them! :-)

Thank you, our goal is to provide the gaming community with the highest quality server at a cheaper price than our competition. To do this we are buying our servers from DELL, most companies rent their server hardware and end up paying more in the long run, which makes their prices go up and/or quality of service go down.

Our servers will be running on the best networks money can buy, for now we are using Internap and Mzima, both utilize smart routing technology to ensure your ping is as low as it can be, they also have connections from multiple tier 1 providers. To make it simple, you will not find another company with lower pings, our pings should be equal or lower than every competitor.

But that's not all, we are taking it one step further by hosting EVERY HL1/HL2 server at 1000 FPS and 100 Tickrate, the highest settings possible. Which will make our game servers feel the "smoothest" and have the best bullet registry.

To ensure our game servers remain stable at 1000 FPS and 100 Tickrate we are only hosting 1 game server per cpu core. There are other companies who offer the same product, 1 game server per cpu core, companies like Summit, HiDef, NextGen, and a few others. However these companies are more expensive, and are offering the same product - hosted on the same server hardware and same high quality networks.

Most companies who offer less expensive game servers (in the price range of $30 to $50) just run more game servers on each machine/server box, this can cause performance issues, resulting in poor bullet registry or lag. This is why our company is only hosting 1 game server per cpu core, this will keep all of our servers 100% stable and we will never have any loss in performance, your server will perform perfectly everytime you play.

You will not find another company hosting less than 1 game server per cpu core, it is the industry's best and only a few companies are able to offer such a product successfully.

The only thing is, in order to only host 1 game server per cpu core we are required to charge more than your typical game server. But we promise you will be playing in the best game server money can buy. By hosting 1 game server per cpu core you will NOT be sharing a processor with another customer, this guarantees all of that processor's resources are concentrating on your game server. We also run 8GB of RAM, this means your game server is guaranteed 1GB of RAM which is more than enough to run your game server without any lag or performance issues. Even if all customers are using their game server, our system will still be under 40% utilization which ensures we will never have any lag on our game servers.

Other companies charge anywhere from $75 to $115 a month for the same product, our company will be charging anywhere from $65 to $75 and we include web hosting and a 100 slot sourcetv/hltv for free with your order. I guarantee you will not find another company offering a better deal.

P.S. Our game servers are not intended for the casual public gamer, we are here for the competitive league gamers. If you play in a league you are probably very serious about the game you play. We know how it is, you practice that map all week long so you have a shot at winning that league match once a week, but what good is all that practicing if your game server doesn't register that crucial shot during your league match? Do you really want to risk losing a game because of a bad game server?

If you rent your game server from a less expensive company (who charges $30 to $50), all it means is they are putting more game servers on each machine/server box, which results in a lower performance level. These companies have times when their server performs badly, or has lag. The reason is they simply put too many game servers for their systems to handle.

This is why we only host 1 game server per cpu core, even if all game servers are currently in use, our systems will never be over 40% usage which ensures we will never have any sort of lag or bad performance.

We do not offer the cheapest servers around, $65 to $75 a month is not a cheap server. BUT out of all of the companies who offer 1 game server per cpu core, we are the cheapest.

Other companies who offer 1 game server per cpu core cost $75 to $115 per month, so we are pretty close in price to some companies, but much cheaper than others. The companies that are on the higher end of the scale are most likely renting their server hardware, and do not own the servers, thus they must charge more money because their expenses are higher.

When I meant less expensive servers, I mean in the price range of $30 to $50.

The reason we are slightly cheaper than our competition (out of the companies who offer 1 game server per cpu core) is because we own our hardware, we do not rent it, and we have private agreements with the data centers which allows us to get our bandwidth much cheaper than most of our competitors. We are also being run by gamers, so we aren't really opening this company to make a lot of money, we are here to provide competitive league gamers with an affordable solution to 1 game server per cpu core.

Don't get me wrong, just because a game server costs $30 to $50 does not mean it will be a bad game server. It's just that the possibilities of your server lagging is much higher with a less expensive game server, because it usually means the company is running more per machine/server box.

And, if a server costs $30 to $50, it most likely will not be a 1000 FPS game server, and if it is... it probably won't be very good.

Raising the FPS of the game server allows the system/CPU to run faster, which will improve the performance of the game server - it's usually noticed in the bullet registry.

This is how the Tickrate works... at 100 tickrate every player sends a packet/update to the server every 10ms (milliseconds). So if you're playing a 5 vs 5 match that means there are 10 players in your game server. If each player sends a packet to the game server every 10ms that equals to about 1 packet every 1ms (10 packets divided by 10ms).

In order for the game server to process all of these packets, the server FPS must be able to handle it.

At 250 FPS the game server is able to process 1 packet every 4ms. At 500 FPS it is able to process 1 packet every 2ms. And at 1000 FPS it is able to process a packet every 1ms. So obviously the best gaming environment would be 1000 FPS.

Since 100 tickrate means each player sends 1 packet to the game server every 10ms (you take 10 packets divided by 10ms), that is 1 packet per 1ms. So the game server needs to be able to update every 1ms, the only way to have it do this is to run the game server at 1000 FPS and keep the FPS stable at that number.

Sometimes when I play in 500 FPS game servers I notice the bullet registry is better when some players are Dead. The reason is simple, at 500 FPS the game server can not process all of the packets being sent from all 10 players. So when some players are Dead, there are less than 10 players sending packets to the game server, which means there are less packets in total - this allows the game server to process more of the updates being sent since there are less. This doesn't always pose a problem unless you are serious about your game server and want the best performance possible. But it's just common sense, if 10 players are sending a packet to the game server every 10ms, that is 1 packet every 1ms. At 500 FPS the game server can only process a packet every 2ms... that means it's literally only processing about 50% of the packets being sent to the game server... do you really want something like that for a high performance match server?

P.S. Some companies offer 2000 FPS but I honestly do not see the point. At 100 tickrate there is 1 packet being sent by each player every 10ms. So if you have 10 players in a server, every player sends a packet every 10ms, that is 1 packet every 1ms. 1000 FPS processes a packet every 1ms.

2000 FPS will process a packet every .5ms...but there will never be that many updates being sent to the server UNLESS you have 20 players in the game server.
