Centos instll
#1
Hi all

I was wondering if any knew the answer to this:
I want to reinstall Centos on my IBM blade, with dual Xeon processors, and was wondering why the 64-bit is not more used?

Will I get a performance gain out of my server with 64-bit, or is SRCDS better off with 32-bit? If gain can be achived, has anybody any experience with Centos 5.1, or should it be the single server cd install?

I ONLY run different SRCDS servers, some with mods, but basically only steam games on them.

i dont have a link or refrence for you, but Ive read that 64bit kernel and srcds dont work well together. and the only reason to have 64bit kernel is if you have 4+ gigs (or something like that ) worth of memory

Hi again

Thank you for that. I have 4 GB memory on 2 servers, and 8 Gig memory on 2 others, all run 15K SCSI discs, with 2x36GB in mirror, and dual xeon 3.4 processors on all.
they are right now on a 8MB download and 8MB upload (can be upgraded) on my ISP backbone, but with only 1 CSS server on each I get lag from time to time (between 16 and 32 player slots).
With the specs i have, I know I shouldn´t have ANY lag at all, but cannot seem to find the problem :-(
Right now I´m running them on a centos 4.2, with a gaming kernel installed.

My idea was to reinstall centos, all over, and fix the timing to 1000 again, but wanted to find out if it perhaps would be a good idea with 64-bit...?
