Connection Failed after 4 retries.

I've found some topics on this problem but non were helpful, I appologize if I missed the solution in my searches

Ok I'm trying to set up a GMod Dedicated Server on a spare computer we have. I installed everything and forward ports 300 - 60000 for good measure. The server shows up on the internet list for me, but when i try to connect over the internet it gives me

Connection failed after 4 retries

So I thought it was a port problem. I had a friend try to connect, he said it was "Not Responding" I've got the server hooked to our router and I forwarded both TCP and UDP ports. What am I doing wrong?

Well after much tinkering I found the problem =)

For some reason I must remove all port forwarding to other computers other than my server computer. Once I did that I was no longer able to connect to internet games, however I could connect to lan. Then my friend attempted to connect using the wrong IP Address to the server giving it the illusion we had a problem but it all worked out and my server is up and running, however I cant seem to initialise damage between players I thought it was

sbox_plpldamage 1

but this seems useless...

When you set up the port forwards, did you specify UDP, TCP, or both?

Were the port forwards for the other computers in the 300 - 60000 range?

If so, then the router was sending you connection packets to those machines.

If you forward only the ports you need, you'll reduce the possibility of conflicts on your forward table.
