new server wont show up on master list, but still works :(

Sad
Hey guys, I opened up a second server using the configurations of my first server.

The first server works completely, shows up on masterlist, is connectable, etc. However, the second server has everything properly setup, but it simply wont show on the masterlist.

1) Ports are forwarded
2) IP is properly defined
3) port is properly defined
4) I can connect to the server, and play just fine on it, and so can others
5) Server does respond when added to favs, and requests are made

I am at a loss as to what exactly I am doing wrong. Ideas?

Is it on the same server? By port properly defined you mean you changed it from 27015 right?
Sometimes it takes a while to show up in the master list.

completely different machines, completely different ip addresses, and completely different physical locations.

it's also been like this for about a week not showing up.

You are hosting at a datacenter?

no, it's not a datacenter. it's irrelevant where it is, what matters is that two identical setups at completely different locations and machines are having different results. the ports are properly forwarded, as i can clearly connect to it without any VAC problems or anything. the only problem is it is simply not showing up on the master list.

It is relevant. Datacenters sometimes block certain ports and if you are hosting at home you can firewalls blocking it. Please just tell us where the goddam thing is located so we can help you.

what port is used for masterlisting? I can double check if it has been routed properly.

the location is one I am unwilling to disclose, but is not at a datacenter, and is not at a location that has any port-blocking (this I am absolutely positive of).

Ok then....
These are the ports needed for srcds. Not really sure exactly which one the Masterlist uses but these should cover it.
TCP -> 27015
UDP -> 27015-27020

i have 27015-27025 TCP and UDP forwarded to the machine. clearly enough ports. i've had these ports forwarded since when I first setup the server.
As I said before

I am using the exact same configuration as on the other server. If I did not have the ports properly forwarded I would not be able to:
a) poll it in the favs list
b) connect to it
c) rcon it

All 3 of these things I CAN do, however it is not masterlisting; that is the only thing it is not doing.

How different is your server IP from the address you are searching it from?

The way the master list works, is that it pulls server IPs that are close to your current PC IP address. If your addresses are quite far apart (for example, home IP = 213.xx.xx.xx and server IP = 65.xx.xx.xx), you may find that the server list wont list it quickly in a search or even not at all.

Both servers are running private IP ranges, internally. As for the public IPs, they are provided by the same provider, and they are within the same Class C IP.
Why would it pull IPs close to mine, instead of just pulling mine?
Besides, doesnt a hearbeat from the server (as in SENDING) provide all the info necessary?

It would only pull yours and others in your network if you used the LAN tab to search for server. The master list has to list all internet servers, which Valve decided to use this 'close-to' technique - under the assumption if a server has an IP similar to yours, they must be within relatively close distance ( = lower ping, nicer gameplay).

If they are within the same class, i don't see why it wouldn't show if the other does so.

You could also check out this thread if your network is running NAT, otherwise nvm.

You asked me what ports are used for Masterlist, I told you.... The masterlist uses those ports. You could try Valve to get the specific port used for the Masterlist. Also if you are hosting at a Datacenter, which you wont tell me, then even if you forward your ports correctly there could be an overiding block on a certain port for some reason. Ask about it. Even if you dont host at a Datacenter, other then your home, make sure there is no default port blocker.

Also how is the network setup? Like what equipment?

Oh now I get it, but I dont think you quite understand the structure.

Yes both computers are on private IPs, however they are not on the same network, or in the same location. The only similarity is the ISP and the configuration of routing/server configuration.

They are both on linux, both in gentoo, and both have dedicated users (on the machine) to execute the program.

I'll check out your NAT link, but the strange thing is that both are NAT'd and both should be properly routed (using identical ports and all).

Now, just to add a bit more clarity. The server I am having problems with is not on the network I am trying to connect from. I go through the internet to access the problematic server. I add the public IP to my fav list, and can poll on that public IP and port, get info, and connect just fine. No VAC problems, no RCON problems.

Oh, and why did spartan frog quote me without any additional text? lol
