CS:S Server latency.
#1
Hey, I've been reading these forums for a while.. hoping to find a solution to my problem.
Server Info:
OS: CentOS 4.5
Kernel: 2.6.9-55.0.2.ELsmp
Ram: 512MB
CPU: Intel Dual Core P4 2.6

The problem is, every few minutes theres huge latency problems. I'm running MRTG and it's not seeing these problems, and none of my other servers(non srcds) are seeing them either. I've been monitoring it with HLSW, and when ever the lag spikes, It's basically a teleport lag in the game.

Here are my current settings, however I tried it with almost all possible variations.

Tick: 66
FPS: 500(300 in-game)
Pingboost: 2
sv_minrate 0
sv_maxrate 20000
decalfrequency 10
sv_maxupdaterate 66
sv_minupdaterate 10

I have a very similar problem.

I noticed we have almost exactly the same kernel setup, except I'm running RedHat Enterprise 4.

Does your CPU usage go way up when this happens?

Have you updated your Kernel yet and set it to 1000Mhz?

Try recompiling with 1000hz (not Mhz Wink ) and using the preempt (real-time) patch so no data is queued.

Well, I just found something out:

It appears that a large /downloads directory eats a lot of CPU usage for some reason, and it causes the server to spike often. I eliminated those pesky pauses by deleting and recreating it.
