Map listing
#1
I'm running XP and using the gui source DS and I can't seem to put the simple test map I created into the list of maps on the gui interface. It only shows the maps that I believe that come with the game when i first downloaded the game, like dust, militia, office, etc. How do I add my map I created to the list of maps so I can have that in my map roster as a playable map on my server??

Okay, if you have a map and placed it in the right map folder \cstrike\maps\* then you can run the map using the console part in the GUI DS, "map [mapname]"

To add that map to the map list and cycle simply open up \cstrike\maplist.txt and \cstrike\mapcycle.txt and on a new line put in the map name.

Though i'm not sure about GUI, perhaps it adds the map in the maplist by auto, i'll check it out and get back to you.

Ok under Source dedicated server under the main tab, it says map De_Dust 2 which is what I assume is the first map that it starts out on or whatever. Well when i double click it it lets me have a drop down menu to select a different map but it only lists a few maps like office, dust, etc. and not the maps that I have downloaded from other peoples servers and the map I just created. Under C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\mwalden420\counter-strike source\cstrike\maps are all of the maps that I have downloaded over time playing counter strike and i cut and pasted the new map files that I have created (mitchell text file bsp file and the nav file ) into this folder. One thing that is wierd is that dust and office ,etc. the basic maps aren't listed in this folder. So I did what you said and opened the text files you told me too and put the name of the file in there "mitchell" and it still doesn't show up in the drop down menu in source dedicated server so I can use it in the lineup or just let other people play my map at all. I'm confused. please help, thanks.

Well i downloaded the gui DS to have a look,

make a folder here called maps

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\mwalden420\source dedicated server\cstrike\

paste the maps you want in your server in there when you launch the the DS you will see your map at the bottom of the list next to Test Speakers map

if that doesn't work then you should go with the more popular CMD based DS Smile

Sorry i'm a new just recently started messing around with make maps. Still working on perfecting that too.

You could say using the cmd based srcds is easier. It can be setup so only a click of a file can start and run the server without having to touch anything in the srcds console.

For example my script which entering about 5 numbers, could have your server up and running with an anti crash script
