At the moment we have a high performance hi-def pro server pub:

Minimum - Dual 244 Opteron; 2GB Ram
Max - Dual 5130 Dualcore Intel Xeon; 4GB Ram
Connection - 100% Internap; 100% Cisco; 100MBPS thoughput per machine

And an average 32 slot gameserver.com server. We are paying around $180 for the two per month and are considering getting a dedicated server instead. This is what we can get in our price range (defcon):

Should we change? We need perfect performance on the 18 man for CAL / CPL training and scrims, no lag, no choke, low pings etc, 500fps. We also need good performance on the 32 man. Can you help us choose, would we be better off with a dedicated for our budget? Also is defcon a good choice for dedicated servers? I rented from another dedicated server company, but the internet was really poor and the pings were twice the normal, i need the best connection possible.

James, defconservers.com is awesome IMO. We one dedicated box there that holds 7 HaloPC, 2 Halo2vista, Teamspeak, FTP server, 28slot 66tic CS:S ZM, 16slot 100tic CS:S GG servers quite well.
But we are at a limit now to what we can have because this about maxes the box out while still leaving a bit of room for overhead.

We have used them for just a month shy of a year now. Very pleased with the pings, bandwidth and service. Three of the halo servers and the two CS:S servers are full many time for hours on end. There are always 15-30 people using the teamspeak too.

For what you are paying now and for what you want to run. Go for it.

FYI:This is hosted in the Dallas data center and our monthly bandwidth allocation is much more than that. Negotiate with them, that's what we did. You'll need more bandwidth. We pay 189.00 per month with that same box.
