I have followed the steps in the linux install quicky tutorial.

wget http://www.steampowered.com/download/hldsupdatetool.bin worked.

when I type:
"chmod +x hldsupdatetool.bin && ./hldsupdatetool.bin" I get:

Bash: ./hldsupdatetool.bin : cannot execute binary file

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

hldsupdatetool.bin is a binary image. It is compiled for ia32 (Intel Pentium) processors.

You'll have to get the source code from Valve Software and compile for the Play Station 3. Let me know how that goes.

I am compiling wine as we speak...I just got my PS3 two days ago, I am still figuring out how linux is useful on the ps3...i will try to run a windows srcds under wine, assuming it compiles correctly, and the planets are aligned...

even then, performance might make it worthless...but it'll be fun!

Let us know if Wine Is Not an Emulator even runs (I haven't ever used it).

You will need a virtual machine to run the software.

Will any of these compile for PS3 Architecture:

You can try to request srcds for the cell processor.
Who knows, valve might comply?

Please do not PM me for server related help

Doubtful...after I complete my move this weekend I will likely try a number of things, virtual machines (VMWare), wine, different distros (for Linux noobies Yellow Dog is definitely the worst modern Linux distro), and all sorts of different things, including asking for the source, so I may build it. There are more problems with that though...hopefully I can work through em...

I have wondered what all is included in the Source SDK.

Possibly port the engine over, and run closed apps like steam in a modified VM?

Just interesting stuff to think about.
