Core dump files [solved]

I'm running gentoo and I'm trying to determine the cause of my server crashing but I don't know what to do with the core.xxxx files. I remember trying to do it before (forget the command now) and it always said it was never able to read the file.

Edit: the command is gdb srcds_amd core.xxxx
Also, ulimit must be set to unlimited
