assuming you are using the default kernel form FC, its probably so bloated you have a high lat kernel, mount your boot partition then do
Code:
du -ch /boot/<kernel>

replace <kernel> with the kernel you're running

        root (hd0,0)

title Fedora Core (2.6.5-1.358smp)
        root (hd0,0)
        kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.5-1.358smp ro root=LABEL=/1

Did the following

Code:
[root@1087 /]# du -ch /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.10-1.760_FC3
1.5M    /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.10-1.760_FC3

it'll just show the size of the kernel, smaller the kernel, less memory it'll take to hold.
