CS:S on FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE
#1
I successfully installed death match on another 5.3 box, so I went about installing counter strike source on another using the 5.3 as well.

First PC (1Ghz P3)
Second PC (Dual Xeon 3Ghz)

Have the linux_base-8 port installed

Steam bombs a fair way into the update procedure.

Checking/Installing 'Counter-Strike Source Shared Content' version 22

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Models' version 3

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Sounds' version 3

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Materials' version 4

DebugAssert
Expr: ( close( m_pImpl->m_Socket ) ) == 0
Line: 582
File: ../Engine/Src/ContentServerBlockingConnection.cpp
Abort (core dumped)

Would anyone have an idea?

Thanks, Alex

The error message indicates that the close call failed on the connection to the content server. It dumped core, so maybe that would be useful to a developer. You could post a stack traceback. (I always have to google how to do that, but it's not hard.)

Just to add to this.

I've recompiled the kernel and dropped SMP support and the steam update is no longer bombing :/

With SMP support compiled back in (once steam is updated) the dedicated server appears to run fine.
