big server tweaks?
#1
Is there anything that us server admins that have larger servers can do to smoothen out gameplay? I run a 42 player server and runs fine up to around 30 players, but when it gets above that people complain about some lag. I was wondering if there are any options to turn off/on to make things go smoother?

server is running on:

Pentium 4 2.8ghz 800mhz FSB w/ HT
1GB ECC DDR SDRAM
2 x 80GB hard drives (7200rpm)
FreeBSD 5.2.1
100mbit pipe

Install windows. lol
Actually its theyr pc's lag, you need to much cpu power to process 40 players i hardly can play on 20 players server with my 2.7 ghz p4.
40 players server is overkill, they should lower graphics or something on THEYR machine you cand do nothing with it except lower open slots.

i dont think that is it... there are two other servers well known with 42 slots, usually always full. they dont get the lag that my server gets. both are 24/7 office, just like mine.
