Quick Install of Game Files
#1
If you have steam installed a computer, then you can do the following steps:

1. Download GCFScape (http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=26) and Install it.

2. Quit/Exit Steam

3. Launch GCFScape.

4. Open source sounds.gcf in your SteamApps directory.

5. Extract the hl2 folder to the folder that you have hldsupdatetool installed on(c:\srcds, for example)

6. Rinse and repeat with the following files:

* source models.gcf
* source materials.gcf
* half-life 2 content.gcf

7. To install CS:S, you will need to extract counter-strike source shared.gcf as well. To install HL2MP, you will need to extract half-life 2 deathmatch.gcf

8.run the hldsupdatetool like in the tutorial to install, and it will verify all of those files and download the few that it doesn't have.

If you have a server on a seperate computer, nothing is stopping you from burning the files onto a DVD and loading them onto the server computer.

In total, this install process takes about 15 minutes total, plus server setup time.

I have tried this out, and obviously depending on you net connection it will either take more than 15 minutes or less than 15 minutes. Anyways, it's alot quicker.
I am setting up a server ATM. Once finished I may be looking for admins. PM me if interested.

Why not just take a default copy of the css server files installed and keep it up to date then when a new client signs up use a batch script to copy the files into the new area. It's what I do.
