Why am I suddenly getting wrong numbers
#1
Why am I suddenly getting phone calls from China? The first one was about 2 weeks ago and the person did not speak any English. It was obvious writhing a few seconds that it was a wrong number so I hung up. A couple of days later, I got another one. And they have been coming in about once or twice a day since then. None are from the same phone number.

Then yesterday I saw an unknown call coming in from Irvine, California. I used to live right on the boarder of Irvine and Lake Forest and knew many people in both cities so I answered the call. It was an Asian man who spoke such broken English that I couldn’t understand him. I know Irvine had a very large population of wealthy Asians, but all the ones that I know speak very clear English so this was obviously another wrong number.

Have you ever gotten a grouping of wrong numbers like this that went on for a few weeks? And other than the Irvine call, all from the same country? I got a new phone, carrier, and phone number when I moved to Oregon so I am hoping this number isn’t an old one that was regularly called from China. I wonder how long a phone number is set aside before a company reuses it?

I don’t think I am being charged for the China calls, but I will check. I am blocking each one that comes in. It is just odd that I am getting so many from the same country all of a sudden. I got this new phone last October, and nothing odd has happened until this. I sure hope I don’t have to request a new phone number because I just finally learned this one.

That’s super frustrating, getting random calls out of the blue. It could be a few things causing this. Maybe someone mistyped their number somewhere and it ended up being yours. Happens more than you'd think! Or sometimes telemarketers or spam callers just dial random numbers to see who picks up. If the wrong numbers seem genuine (like actual people), it might be worth politely asking how they got the number—they could clue you in.
In the meantime, you might want to check your number on any forms or accounts you’ve set up recently to see if there’s a typo. If it’s spammy calls, tools like us phone number for verification can help confirm if a number’s legit.
