First car accident/rear ending - What is the process here? :/
#1
Hey everyone! I hope you are well. At about 7pm last night I was badly rear ended at a red light. Other Driver admitted complete fault to myself, the officer on scene taking statements and the towing company. I made sure my car sat until I called Naked Insurance, I told them I was rear ended and my car needed to be towed, they approved the tow and gave authorization for the towing company on scene to tow my car. I emptied it out and they towed it. I then went home.

Today what do I do? Do I need to submit a claim with my insurer or wait for his insurer? I know I need to go to the police station to get a case number since the officer on scene yesterday didnt give me one.

There were also items in the car that have been damaged, namely a computer monitor I had in my car, as well as my sunglasses. How do I claim for these since its his fault? I also dont know what to do to make sure my car is fully taken care of, Im worried something like the gearbox has taken damage since I slid forward quite a lot, also the accident happened on my exhaust so worried it cracked somewhere.

Edit: Reading the comments, you can always trust South Africans to crack a joke haha, but they had me laughing so no complaints! Though maybe I should specify it was my car being rear ended not me

I had to file a claim with my insurer first, but since the other driver admitted fault, his insurance ended up taking care of most of the damage. Definitely get that case number from the police station, as it’ll help with everything. As for the damaged items in your car, you should be able to file a claim for those through the other driver’s insurance too. I’ve heard the Best Truck Accident Lawyers in Tulsa are really helpful in cases like this if you ever need legal advice. Don’t worry too much about the gearbox or exhaust; if you can get a mechanic to inspect the car, that should help ensure there’s no hidden damage.
