Ports changing....
#1
Sad
I set up my ports and everything opened the ports up on my firewall, etc.

The problem is: When I look for my game under Gametiger.net (i do a server seach for EVC) I find it, but the port is 27731 or something i didnt specify!

EVEN WORSE: every time i restart the server the port changes!

Do you happen to be using the ICS (Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing) service built into Windows?

A few of my friends had issues with ICS changing the external port services would listen on.

I am not the admin of our connection, my bro is. But i beleive that may be the problem. Although i'm still not sure. If that is teh problem is tehre anyway to fix it?

If its not the problem (dunno) then can people suggest other problems?

Thanks!

PS: My friends (on other connections) cant connect to the server... so..... crap.

If your brother's using ICS, I don't know of a way to fix it. Obviously, you could buy a router and get rid of ICS, but that isn't always an option especially if you're low on cash.

I tried adding that server, but it isn't responding.

well... thanks for the help anyway.

I found an interesting article that fits my problem so ima look into it:

Q: When I search for the server's name with gametiger.net's server search I can find it but the port number is not 27015 (or whatever I specified). And it seems to randomly change every time I restart the server...

A: Make certain the Server's internal ip address falls outside the DHCP range. For example, if your router's LAN ip is 192.168.0.1 and the DHCP range is set to start at 192.168.0.2 and end at 192.168.0.100, manually set the server's ip to something like 192.168.0.200. Port forwarding to an automatically (DHCP) assigned IP address might work, but when the server eventually picks up a new IP from the router, it will stop working. And beyond that some routers will simply ignore any forwarding to dynamically assigned addresses.

well.... good luck

If your local IP changing is the issue, you could possibly set it to be reserved. But, not all routers support that. My router always assigns my computers pre-specified ip's, it identifies the pc's by mac address and gives them a reserved ip.

my bro set my pcs ip to 192.168.2.16 already and made it static to make sure the router leaves it there.

for info: in console it says ip is :192.168.2.16:27015. (internal ip)

then we forwarded that to **.***.**.***:27015.
and the external port changes all the time. weird. anywho, thanks anyway!

I'm feeling your pain bro. I've been working on the same problem as you, as well as getting my Server to show up in STEAMs List and on Xfire but I just can't do it! I have a considerable computer and networking background and I still can't figure it out. I even replaced my router thinking it may help, but no. I give up unless someone has some fresh ideas. I've read ever internet post out there. It should be this freaking difficult! GOD!

Good luck to ya...
