random crazy lag

i have a dedicated server that will run just fine with decent pings and then it will randomly shoot up to pings in the 800s-900s, then return to normal. today for example it was fine all morning and early afternoon and then in the evening it kept doing this where the ping skyrockets.

any ideas for what is causing this? theres noone else using my connection in the house.

Sounds like a cpu intensive process on your server machine is running as well as srcds. If you're running windows check that your anti-virus software is not automatically scanning your system as this will eat resources quickly and will send the performance of your source server through the floor.
