Cant install with Fedora
#1
Hola guys

I have been using the tutorial in srcds with absolutley no problem unser SuSE 9.1 or 10.0. However we got a new server with Fedora 4 and we have no option of changing it to SuSE.

I go through the following steps

' Wrote:wget http://www.steampowered.com/download/hldsupdatetool.bin
chmod +x hldsupdatetool.bin
./hldsupdatetool.bin

However when I get to do ./steam I get an error message to say no such file or directory.

In the srcds_l directory hldsupdatetool.bin is in the format as it when downloaded i.e. hldsupdatetool.bin and that is the only file. Is there anything that can be suggested to remedy this ?

Thanks Loki

after you do ./hldsupdateool.bin, what does the "ls" command show? (directory listing) is there such a thing as steam in that folder?

I am doing this via SSH in terminal so it does not really show anything. However when I check the srcds folder via webmin it is the same and not inflated

yes, in the terminal where you put the hldsupdatetool.bin, what is the output of the "ls" command, it's the same as "dir" in windows/dos. that will show you whether or not steam got correctly extracted.

Not sure I follow so here is some info that may help

Assuming i am logged in as root and have gone to cd /home/folder(can be any)/srcds

mkdir srcds
cd srcd

wget http://www.steampowered.com/download/hldsupdatetool.bin
This downloads the dedicated server files for a Half Life 2 from Steam

chmod +x hldsupdatetool.bin

./hldsupdatetool.bin
I read through the licensense agreement and type yes to accept

./steam

I get an error message to say file or directory does not exist. However the original file of hldsupdatetoool.bin should have inflated in the srcds directory along with the file steam.

Hope this helps

ok, after you read through the license argreement and type "yes" you will return to the command prompt. at this point type "ls" and hit enter, it will display some stuff, what does it display at this point? what i'm trying to see is if you have steam in the folder (since your error is file/folder does not exist) does that make sense?

I used the same exact commands you did and it created "steam" for me.

I'm also using Fedora Core 4.

It's odd that it's not working for you Sad
