[HL2DM] Server Hangs at Client Connect
#1
After installing a dedicated server the people connecting to it are reporting that their client just hangs once reaching 90% of the loading bar..........here's the info in the client console after cancelling.....

File 'downloads/d42c5ed7.dat' requested from server(the part where it says Sending client information to server)

Can someone help me with this?

Well first off, this is a client problem I'm pretty sure. Atleast according to what them other posts say.

Does this happen to everyone that trys to join your server? whats your server ip and when it will be up, i will see if i can connect to rule out that its not a server problem.

It could be a client problem, because what them posts were saying is that it would almost totally freeze there computer, which makes me thing there was a memory leak causing that dreaded "referenced memory error at adhf;sdkgkn3xxx00035kljef (whatever the memory address was Toungue)" Causing your computer to freeze. I used to get this a lot on one of my computers using an onboard video card. (that computer was a p.o.s. anyways) but I have never had it happen on a better computer. What are the computer specs that your trying to connect to the server with? and is this computer also running the server?

{b] I have a gut feeling is the server as I already tested making my own server and it works....[/b]

Yes, happens to everyone trying to join the server......

My IP is at 72.232.89.162:27015 .....however, its passworded....its a mod we did....I will try to setup a linux server at home and see how it goes.....that way I can pinpoint the problem....

My PC runs an AMD 64 3400+ with 1GB memory and an ATI x850Pro....have used it to host as well, but my server is a dedicated server elsewhere, not on same location

How do you have installed the srcds? have you cheke the server.cfg properly configured?

First you have installed the hldsupdatetool and the you have downloaded the entire srcds and the libraries according to the OS, isn't it? NAd then you have uploadeed it to the host?

Is it running hl2dm or the mod?

the .dat looks for the user spray if they have already connected once. That is the fullest of it to my understanding and really should not cause client issues.

So how can I test to see whether its that?......How to turn off sprays.....or of that sort......

Jooki@ Ya, its all installed accordingly to instructions on this website.........the server is a remote server......not a home server....

well to disable uploading sprays its sv_allowupload 0, try setting sv_allowdownload and sv_allowupload to 0 and see if it will let you join the server. If it does, then try connecting with 1 on, the other off, and then the other way and see what happens...

Honestly I don't know whats goin on, just tryin to give hints on what to troubleshoot Big Grin

hmm.. Well I think I'm officially confused.

although I am starting to think that it has to do with the mod itself. Maybe its tryin to get the wrong .dat file from the client. Did the mod ever work? If this is a mod you made, you might want to recheck some of the coding. Also if this mod did work a long time ago, an update may of broken the mod, it happens quite often from what I understand (admin mods, and game mods)

Yes the mod works on our home servers.........we have hosted and played with it.

If you want to tryout our my home server let me know......it works there but doesn't on my hosted remote server.........

P.S. Am trying to get a Linux server up and running and already have srcds on it and running, but I think I have a faulty router which will replace soon......waiting for new router.....but was wondering how do I get our 3rd party mod installed onto it.....do you have a tutorial explaining that?

Well I don't know. I'm not sure how to install a 3rd party mod either, cuz everyone I have seen has been a little bit different. I am still thinking though that its a problem with the mod. Cuz I have no idea lol. Maybe talk with whoever made the mod and see if they have any ideas (I'm guessing you didn't make it yourself even though you say "our mod". If you don't know how to install it..).

Yes, we made it.......

Like I say we've hosted game server at our end with winxp and soon will try it with Linux on our end......if all goes well with linux will be contacting my game hoster and let them know about it.....

I truly believe its how they setup the server or how they have it setup........I did all I can to check files and all looks fine...

I will get back to this thread once the issue is solved.......and if anyone interested in beta-testing our mod on passworded servers please let me know and will hook you up......found some info here..

Found the problem..........actually, it could be our mod or the SDK......eventually, when connecting to a dedicated server it freezes on spawning of players.........but when using listening server it works fine......hmm

Hey guys, thanks all for helping troubleshoot the problem.....it now has been fixed.......here's what I found and have learned......

- Additional file "autoexec.cfg" needed in CFG folder with these lines below.....
mp_teamplay 1 // set to 1 to enable teamplay
mp_teamlist "hgrunt;scientist" // team models, if mp_teamplay = 1

- Also learned that not just rebel/combine spawn points should be placed but also deathmatch spawn points, just like Ben said....that way it prevents the server from crashing when switched to DeathMatch and at same time makes the maps comaptible with DeathMatch........

Once again, thanks all! Soon our mod will be released public.....expect some videos this late April....
