Server out of data: Left4dead2

I'm getting the server out of date error. I deleted my entire left4dead2 folder and ran this:

hldsupdatetool -command update -game left4dead2 -dir g:\games\left4dead2

I'm running windows 7. I'm also executing the srcds.exe file directly (in G:\Games\Left4Dead2\left4dead2) and starting the server. After a few seconds I get the server out of date error. When I try to connect from an updated client, it says:

Well scratch that, I was trying to run the game to get the error again and now it says that the game is unavailable. Basically the client says that it expected version xxy and the server is running xxa (an earlier version).

I also tried deleting the srcds.exe and running the update tool again to make sure I had the latest version and I get the same error.
