CS:GO DS doesn't receive connections from public lobby matchmaking

I have configured a CS:GO dedicated server and my friends and I can connect to it from the internet just fine. The problem is that the server does not receive any connections from the in game matchmaking. Is this common? Should I expect it to receive these connections? When I play match making myself I seem to only connect to Valve servers lately. Is it a bug?
