[Solved] What determines how private a TF2 server is?
#1
I setup a private server and left it running a few hours before our event. When I came back it was full of people not from our group. Does this mean that it ended up being in the Valve rotation when people are looking for a server to play? Or it it more likely that our group's events aren't private or something and they just found out about it?

Thanks,

If you want your server to be private or for only specified players, you can put a password on the server.

You need to put sv_password "passwordhere" in your server.cfg and restart your server.

Only people that know the password can join your server.

Just a fyi when you want to connect to the passworded TF2 server.

When you launch your TF2 client game, open your console with ~ and type

Code:
connect ip:port ; password "passwordhere"

For example,

Code:
connect 192.137.3.13:27015; password donuts

Also if you want to remove the password from the server. Just edit your server.cfg by leaving the command as sv_password "" (Leave it blank in the "") and restart your server.

Awesome! I was wondering how to connect without having to create an event. Thanks again!
