Windows 2008 r2 vs Linux Gentoo
#1
Hello guys.
I am switching from Linux Gentoo to Windows 2008 r2.
I am having cpu spike issues that cause huge timeouts(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KquVCsk08w that's the lag).
Here's the questions i want to know about the switch:
1: Will windows have better fps at 55/55 on the mod Zombie Reloaded?
2: Will windows crash more than linux(on Zombie Reloaded or really any server)
3: Will windows take up less cpu(maybe even have a better fps)
That's the only questions i need to know.
Sorry to bother you all.
Thanks,

The answer to all of those questions is no, on your net graph you can see the SV (server's fps) blatantly acting up, that's not going to change because of the operating system. Valve claims they made Source Engine multi-threaded, but everything is still done in one main thread, and with that many players/bots, the physics calculations are too substantial.

So you're still going to be operating on a single thread, you may want to drop the server to 33 tickrate, which will reduce cpu usage by a bit which may allow you to run that many players and so many calculations with minimal if any lag.

Wait, so when you put 20 some bots in the exact same spot being moved on a large map over a long distance with a no collide plugin, zombie plugins, and many others you lag? Your server seems to be running fine? One should expect lag like that to occur. The only thing I could blame it on would be the map. Does it do it on any other maps?

If your hardware is sufficient that is*

Doesn't happen on any other server, any other operating system.etc...
It's only us having the problem.

Any trigger push with a large force and alot of people going in it will lag the server like hell.

What were your hardware specs again?

You could try dropping the max rates or FPS a bit to see if that helps.
