Does Linux CS:S Server run 64bit?
Is it written to handle Dual Core CPU's?

yep

you sure about that? i was under the strong impression that only hl2, not srcds or css, ran 64bit.
i'm fairly certain both will run dual core/ht, though.

It runs 32-bit amd srcds binaries, and it uses both cpu's

I do have to disagree with the other posters. srcds on Linux DOES run in 64-bit mode however it does NOT use more than one CPU. Meaning you don't get better performance when adding more CPUs. Believe me, I did the same mistake. My server is sporting two Dual Core Opterons and only one is used according to the "top"-command.

That is correct. srcds is not a multithreaded application. However I hear the next generation halflife WILL boast more than one thread.

Are we currently able to set "affinity" like we can on windows servers?
Can we point one source instance towards proc1 and the second instance towards proc2?

Linux/FreeBSD should automatically do that. It should determine which CPU has the least but of load and set the proc on that CPU.
EDIT: http://kerneltrap.org/node/335 MAY help you. starting 9/24/2006 if your problem has been solved please edit your first post and add [solved] to the begining of the title. Thanks. |
