Voice Chat Problems
#1
Server OS: Ubuntu Server 64-bit
Processor: Intel Xeon E5440 2.8Ghz Quad Core
Ram: 6GB DDR2
Game(s): TF2
Start Up Command: -game tf -ip 89.145.94.21 -port 27015 -maxplayers 24 +map cp_toy_fort_cod_elite_v1 -replay +fps_max 70
Admin Mods: MetaMod Source, Sourcemod, DAF

I have had reports of the ingame voice chat cutting out a lot for people and sometimes not even being transmitted to the other players. This problem has occurred on both Windows and since the move to Linux. Quote from one of the reports I had:

Quote:it bascially cuts out, and doesn't start talking, someone is like "Finsh your sentense" "I HAVE!" but to them I havent

The server is on a 100mbps port in a data centre, so plenty of bandwidth!

Any ideas what this could be?

Any help is appreciated. Smile

Server rates?

Does it do it to everyone or only a few people?

Code:
sv_minrate 25000
sv_maxrate 50000
sv_minupdaterate 66
sv_maxupdaterate 67
sv_mincmdrate 66
sv_maxcmdrate 67

Don't see why that would be the problem, we have plenty of bandwidth available.

Hm. Those are the proper rates. Are you using the new steam codec or the old codec?

The new one, sv_use_steam_voice is set to 1.

I personally have not heard of any complaints with the in game voice, maybe try setting it to zero and going back to the old system.

Well that change really might be related/the source of the problems. Do that config-change and the reports fit in the timeline? And have your problem-free css-servers the same value for this setting?

After testing, setting sv_use_steam_voice to 0 fixes the problem. A lot of users seem to be having problems with the newer Steam codecs.

From my EXP, I would recommend not messing with any of the voice settings. It tends to cause a crapload of issues, and fixes none Toungue
