If someone could get me a list of basic CS:S and HL2 DM possible config commands and a short description, I could make a config editor that is online based and generated.

I might even be able to get it to package off the server as a .cfg so you just have to download it to your CFG directory and its instantly replaced.

Also I could do a ZM plugin tutorial if you would like, even the mod website cant exsplain anything except give you some little half-ass read me with missing information critical to the setup's end enjoyment something factoring.

Just a thought.

I agree. All I want to do is find a good web-based rcon script. Its impossible to use the search function to find a php script because php is too short of a term, and if you encase the whole phrase in quotes "php script" it comes up with a million script posts and absolutely nothing about php.

On top of that, the mod forum is filled with posts from idiots who really shouldnt be running a server as they have no idea how it works or how linux or windows works. Someone should make a help forum for these people to post their rabble. On top of that, some of these people who are posting about problems with other mods and stuff, should go to the forums of that mod to find help.

Ill think of some more stuff later..

I use the site all the time and I'm always sure that the answer is in here but finding it can be hard. The restriction to 4 characters in the search has slowed me down plenty. If there was only one thing that I could have changed, it would be that. (3 or less please?)

I agree with Zealot, this site needs some work. More or less a new tutorial-system perhaps?

I think that this site is great, and it serves it's purpose. For Server admins/operators to talk about their server program and learn more about srcds.

Ok the first few posts were were talked about have some type of chat room so i found a website that gives me a java code to put on a website. This means on the forum front page we could make another area it would be like a real life support center if you feel like stopping by you can see who needs stuff cause some posts just dont solve problems it sometimes helps if there is someone talking to you to help. And the program skype is a great way for communication for admins you can do conference calls or chats and same for normal members so if there are any other ideas i might be able to find a solution for them.

Hi all.

I started hosting my own SRCDS about a month ago, and I have been getting a lot of help and useful info from the good people of this site.

While there are many other sites around offering a similar resources, I definitely want to see this good site to grow and become better. For one, we have a pretty friendly and active community here.

1)
The "Commercial Pit" is definitely a good feature, for both hosting providers and the SRCDS community. I think you guys should generate some income from it, for offsetting the cost of hosting this site, and also for helping to improve it. Maybe offer a sticky spot for a monthly fee? And for a bit extra, a hosting list on the front page? Include an option for user comments though, so you guys don't have to deal with taking off a hosting provider from the list or sticky, because a certain hosting doesn't live up to the customer expectation.

Sticky spot/front page listing =/= SRCDS.com endorsed. Let the user comments/ratings to be the judge.

2)
A better wiki would be nice. As a newbie in SRCDS, a lot of my questions really have been answered zillion times already, yet searching for them can be tough, especially when the key words are less specific.

For example:

Searching for "logaddress_add" would be easy.

While searching for "streaming" is tough...

How about have a hosting to sponsor, then for the modulators of the wiki, they can have a little, just a little discount on the game server hosting, or maybe a free web hosting.

3)
Add a page for the startup servers for advertising to the players. And maybe on the front page too, such as "Newly added servers", "Top 10 servers" (of those listed on this site, but not including the other servers, since you guys want to help your visitors' servers only).

4)
While adding those, keep the board number to the minimum though. Some popular sites, they just have way too many sub-forums. Since your visitors are here to seek for help, you don't want them to have to spend too much effort on navigating the sub-forums.

Just like with TF2, one of the factor to make a map popular, is the learning curve. If players need to spend too much time to learn the map, they give up.
-----------------------------------

Wish this site can be a one stop solution for us SRCDS DIYers. Cool

I think the website should go to a portal with forums like SMF+TinyPortal, or VB+VBAdvanced. Even PHPBB and a PHPBB Portal would be nice.

TinyPortal is my favorite because its free, and it allows members to submit articles such as tutorials.
