sourcemod works on linux based servers?
#1
So I was playing on a server the other day, and their sourcemod was working, I asked and they said that linux based servers still worked fine. I'm wondering if I reinstall my tf2 server on a linux based os, say puppy linux for example, then I should be able to get sourcemod working again?

of course sourcemod works on linux same way as on windows. one visit to the sourcemod homepage would have clarified that... ;-)

Then how do these particular servers have their sourcemod working already when an update hasn't been released yet?

Use the latest Metamod version (1.8.5) along with the latest Sourcemod version (1.3.5). They work fine ...

So you didn't have any issues with it after the Australian christmas update? I was told on a server that tf2 linux servers weren't broken.

I think I'm just going to reinstall our server, however I've been thinking about switching the server os over to linux, any advantages or disadvantages?

(probably going to use puppy linux or ubuntu)

1. Linux is free.
2. You can optimize the system for srcds
3. No more bluescreens!

I recommend ubuntu, as most people have reported good out-of-the-box experience with it.

I recommend Ubuntu or CentOS both are good for game servers but I find Ubuntu best out of the box

if you are looking for a guide to optimize the kernel/system, see my signature. but with ubuntu you can probably try running without optimizations first.
