Port And IP Issues.

Hi. I have SRCDS installed and working fine, I have been using the 27015 port with TCP and UDP. People can connect to my Listen server, however, I need help with my Dedicated server. When I launch it, it is LAN, even though it has connected successfully to the Internet and Steam servers, it informs me that VAC is enabled, and that sv_lan 0 is on. However, it remains my computers LAN Address. And not my adress at http://www.whatismyip.com

I REALLY need help. I have been trying to figure this out for several weeks now. With no luck. Please help me out.

I got a Linksys Cisco E2000 Fiber-Optic Connection Wireless router, I do have it wired though to my PC. So, I wanted to take that chance to have a nice server running, but this is making it impossible!

It will always be your local IP if you have it setup behind a router but if you do the port forwarding people will be able to connect with your external IP. The only way to get wast this is getting up NAT which I have never done before.

I have setup The Ports onto the router. But when I give my friends the external IP... They cant connect. This is what I mainly need help with.

What about your firewall on the server, and can you post an image of your port forwarding on the router?

Yeah, I'll get the Port-forward picture, and I allowed my firewall to let the game work fine, for they can connect with my external IP on my listen server. http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/8189/ports.jpg

Your issue is the duplicate rules that your have. You have made a rule that forwards port 27015 UDP & TCP and another rule that forwards port 27000 TO 27015 UDP. The router then goes crazy. Its like:

Router: "Im booting!"
Router: "Checking the ACL..." (portforwards and other fw rules)
Router: "Forwaring the port 27015 UDP and TCP..."

Then it comes to the duplicate rule.

Router: "What the..? Another rule for port 27015 UDP?!"
Router: "Since theres two rules for the same port, i don't know what to do, so i will ignore it. Not forwarding!"

Only the TCP port gets forwarded. Delete the other rule, then it should work. :-)

Ok, I tried this. I undid the other rules, and disabled the UDP one, but kept in on the TCP. When I launched, My friends could still not connect, I tried enabling the UDP after that, It still did not work. Here is my current situation. http://img526.imageshack.us/f/dwm2011010616201902.jpg/ I had it on both last time though because that was the only time it worked. I feel close to finishing, I really hope this gets worked out! Thanks for helping so far.

Are you connecting through LAN or ext. IP-address? If you want to connect to the server with the external IP-address, you will need to enable loopback on your router. Also, srcds listens for client connection on the UDP protocol. TCP is used to control the server through rcon.

Metroidguy - Will your ISP give/sell you a /29 subnet?
Some ISP's will do this for say $20 a month which will give you 5 useable IP addresses, which means you can have a publicly addressable IP address for your server as well as your own machine etc. (7 total can't use 2, 1 for broadcast, 1 for receive) it would save a lot of these issues and your ping would be MAGIC because your router would recognize the IP of yoru server and "not bother" routing you through the internet.
