More Payers Higher Ping
#1
Hi guys

Iv done a search and could not find any info about what im about to post so im sorry if this has been mentioned before.

I have a dedicated box with the following specs

Processor 2.4Ghz Quad Core Xeon
Memory 2GB
HDD 250GB
Connectivity 100Mbit
Bandwith Unlimited
System Ubuntu 32bit

I have a 28 slot server up on gungame 5.1. My pings along with the other players are low (29 for myself) now when the server gets past say, 15 players the pings go up and the more players that join from then on the pings get higher and higher (70 ping for myself from 29 to start with). What do you think could be causing this ?

My command line looks like this

./srcds_run -console -game cstrike -console +ip 178.18.113.2 -port 27015 -tickrate 66 +exec server.cfg +map gg_simpsons_city_advanced +maxplayers 28 +fps_max 1000 > /dev/null 2>&1 &

Iv tried fps_max of 200 and 500 and they dont make any difference Sad

Many thanks in advance

Iv now added to the server.cfg

sv_maxrate 20000
sv_maxupdaterate 67
sv_minrate 0

But no difference to the server the pings still get higher the more people that join.

Do you have any stat logging addons running?
If you do try disabling them and see if that helps.

No loopyman i dont mate, just gungame51, eventscripts and sourcemod.

I have the exact same setup with a game hosting company and the servers are fine 28 slots and same addons. Im now wondering if the dedicated box im on is not as good as it seems or the connection is poor on it.

Iv read that there is a pingbooster tool but believe this is for windows based servers. Does anyone know if there anything like this for linux.

Thanks

Its quite possible the connection is poor, but normally you don't see a gradual increase but rather a spike in latencies.
