[RESOLVED] How to view Console after login - problem

Hello,

I'm running CSS server on Win XP Pro SP3 and I have one question. I put the srcds.exe to the Schedeled tasks in Windows. It works, the server starts automaticaly after the computer is started but I have one problem. Is there a way, how can I start server console after I login to Windows on the server? In the task manager the "srcds.exe" is running like a process (not as like an application) and when I tryed to start console by clicking on my servers shortcut icon, it have started another instance of CSS server. Is there any way how to make it work? Or maybe there is another way how to start the server after PC starts then via Scheduled tasks in Windows?

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Copy and paste the srcds shortcut containing the startup line into that folder.

It should start as soon as you log on normally.

He wants the server to start on system startup, and just wants to see the console once he logs in. There might be a way to do it, but I don't know of one.

Thats exactly what I would like to do, but I still dont know if there is any way to do that without any additional applications or scripts.

Thanks for reply and Hovercat thanks for suggestion but Its not what I want to do (I need my windows account to be password secured, so the server needs to be running befor logging in Windows on CSS server).

I don't think you can have it start before a user logs on.

But if you do the same thing I mentioned earlier, but just add -console to the start up line, that will open the console.

Yes he can. Have you never looked at Scheduled Tasks? This is not his question at all.

Yes, thats the problem. I could set SRCDS to run after start up (after login) and disable the password on the main account on my server, to let server log in automatically to the desktop and than use TightVNC for remote control, but It would be better for me to have the windows account password secured and use Remote desktop (RDP) for remote administration. But if I do so (using Scheduled tasks), the srcds is running on the background and I cant find the way, how to summon the console of my server. Thats the problem.

Hey guys, i did some searching and asked some administrating gurus of MS Windows and there is no way, how to do this, because when I plan this SRCDS in Scheduled tasks to start before log in, the process is running as an "unattenden instance", so there is no way how to pop up a console window.

Doesnt metter, I will have to resolve my problem by putting SRCDS in the "After Startup" directory and my server will be remotely managed using TightVNC with passport.

What you might be able to do is use HLSW and have it show you all the logs for the server in realtime. However, this wouldn't show the logs until the server is online, which makes it harder to troubleshoot startup issues.
