It's quite common for an ISP to change your IP address.
There is nothing you can do besides:
1) Contact your ISP and request a static IP. This is normally very expensive.
2) Use a Dynamic DNS such as no-ip.com or a similar site and give people your DNS name rather then your IP address.

You need to have it point to your external IP, not your internal.

No, you need to use your external IP. DynDNS has a piece of software that will update your hostname to your external IP if it changes, so you don't have to constantly worry about keeping it up to date.
