Hosting - internet things?
#1
Hello i have a few questions about hosting and internet here.

Lets say i have a 66tick server with 20players on it.

What's the minimum download/upload speed i need so people won't get over 60MS, or something like that people want to.

66Tick because it's almost the same as 100tick now.

So? any1 knows?

the latency is not directly related to the bandwidth. only the bandwidth has to be big enough that all packages can get through in order and without waiting, else the latency goes up and the server starts lagging. but you cannot reduce it if you already have enough bandwidth. home connections usually have pings of 60ms and above for players that are connecting via different providers.

I guess you would need like 5 MBit, to be on the safe side.

tick 100 doesn't exist anymore for most games (I think only HL2 and custom mods have it, not CS:S etc.).

what DC are you hosting the server at? What is you BW limitation on that server? what are the tracert's looking like to that server? it looks like you could be overloading your circuit to the server to cause a spike in latency.
