No. Not unless your host has really shitty security. If they do, just use php's shell function to open and run it.

Don't expect great results. If they have horrible security, I wouldn't count too much on their hardware.

not root access. but you need to run a process permanently, which is not allowed by a web host usually. maybe it's technically possible with some tricks, but I guess your provider will ban you...

Answer is yes.

Most paid shared hosts do not block functions like shell_exec or exec, so yes you can run your server on those hosts.

And generally as long as the CPU usage is not that high I doubt they would give a damn unless you're sucking all of their bandwidth.

Most host cut you on 2-5% cpu usage.... Witch would be around a very small tf2 server
#10
Yes you can but their is really no point, you will just end up getting your hosting account shutdown. Just buy a VPS or a dedi if you want to host a website as well as a server.

Meh, if your using 5% cpu (10-15 slot 33tick CSS server) I doubt the host will even notice.

stablehost.com doesn't appear to cut people for CPU usage because when I was with them running IPB3 the task explorer showed people using 60%+ of one CPU core without being cut.

Wow someone must be PMSing. This is a public forum, do not attempt to act like you can tell people to leave.

We disagree with each other about this subject, grow up and learn to co-exist and stop PMSing.

Running a server on webhosting is when it starts to get a little hacky. 99.9% of the time, it is against their TOS, and just because they have it enabled doesn't mean its an open door to run a server.

This isn't a hack website, its a practical use website. If you want to run a server, run it off a dedicated machine or rent from a game server host.

I don't feel that you should be in this threading giving users the wrong idea about hosting their game server properly. Yes, you can practically host a game server anywhere at anytime on anything but it does not mean that the game server is going to be of the quality the user seems to think they are going to get.

Also if it weren't for the fact doing this against many of the major webhost's Terms of Service...

So please, can we stop pushing this issue and keep users on the right track rather than the wrong?
