Whats your map cycle?
#1
Hey guys,

Im in the process of building a server on a spare HP DL360 G3 i had lying around; its all up and running perfectly now. Before i make it "live" i want to get some advice on how to make the server as popular as possible and i believe the map cylce plays a large part in the success of a server. On a side note im also building a nice website and forum to go along with it which i think is also important... anyway.

Just wondering what are you're map cycles running; Do you stick with a few popular maps in rotation or a large variety?

So far I have figured de_dust2, cs_assault, cs_office; with the possibility of de_aztec, de_dust, cs_italy.

Cheers
Ryan

Easiest way, Colocate in a good data center, Chicago, NYC, Dallas, LA... That has good Tier 1 bandwidth along with other large companies such as Road Runner, Comcast, Etc so that their customers ping wonderfully to your servers.

People like to sort by ping and play on the lowest possible.

Other than that, build a good player base. Make friends. Add new friends all the time, Get a good bit of admins as well playing and making the server popular, but keep an eye out for abusers.

As for maps. I'm a fan of most of the default maps. cs_office, cs_italy, de_dust2, de_inferno are my favorites. Also avoid aztec... Although some players love it. Some hate it... It's a good map to empty a server on.
