CS:S server help for a noob
#1
im trying to set up SRCDS to play CS:Source with a couple of people ... nothing fancy

ive set up the server on my machine and i can connect to it no problem, but no one else can.

ive done all the obvious things, forwarded port 27015, sv_lan 0, checked the server.cfg file, i just cant get it to work

any help would be appreciated with this, also im playing the game on the same PC as the server if that makes a diference ???

and if anyones willing to test it i'll PM the ip address to you

Thanks

you have to forward more than just port 27015.

Forward the following ports and you should be good to go. If you are running a dedicated server and you want to play on the same machine, you should run the server on port 27016. To do this just add -port 27016 to the command line when you launch dedicated server. I don't recommend this though, it's a huge performance bottleneck.

[UDP] 1200 (used for Steam's Friends service)
[UDP] 27000 to 27015 (so that means all ports in between too)
[TCP] 27030 to 27039 (idem)
=> these are all Steam related ports

[UDP] 27015 and 27020 (default DS port, also used for HLTV)
[TCP] 27015 (you want to forward this for RCON access)

my guess is that you probably don't need to.

i would try it... see if your server shows up and if it works keep it... if it not, try to tighten the strap down a bit.

nobody is going to hack ports that high unless a)they know you are running a cs server there or b) someone is really out to get you.

Wink
I KNOW!!! i found it out 2day , no one helped me and i was just messing around ....ill tell ya the secret Wink

1.foward the port , (dosent matter if ur using wired or wireless mainly same idea)

2.right click on connection on bottom right of the screen

3.clikc view network connections

4.(im using wireless) right click on connection ur using , then properties, advanced tab, there should be something saying "protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to thwe internet" tick this

5.go to settings , then ICMP tick ALL OF THEM (this is unsafe so use a firewall, may it be router or pc firewall) .

6. go to run in start , then type "cmd" (w.o quations)
7type "ipconfig /all"
8.write down "ip adress"

9. go back to the connection settings, and go to services then add a new one . it should be like this :

description : <enter anything here>
name or ip adress : < enter ur ip adress u wrote down>
external prot number: <enter port, in this case 27015>
internal port number : <same as above , 27015>
tick TCP .
press ok

10. do step 9 again BUT tick UDP this time

and.... that it! start up server , but make sure the port number is 27015, this works for the dedcated server but i dunno about listen.

i hope this worked for you as it did for me

thankyou for reading
