Hey, i was just wondering what port triggering is, and if i need to use it. My server isn't working properly, as it is not showing up in the internet server browser. So basically, do i need port triggering, and what does it do.
Thanks,
Fasga

fasga,
port triggering is the same thing as port forwarding, only 1 step more secure. when using port triggering... ports are not always open. You use what is called a "trigger port." Once you send data outbound the trigger port "triggers" the opening of the specified ports. Once data is done being transmitted it then closes the ports.
With port forwarding, the ports are always open.
I recomming port forwarding over port triggering... because with triggering the ports could close themselves and data can get denied. That would be a bad bad thing for a server.
I am FORWARDING the following ports on my server and it is showing up on the internet list. NOTE: you MUST forward more than port 27015.
UDP/TCP is also important... so pay attention.
[UDP] 1200 (used for Steam's Friends service)
[UDP] 27000 to 27015 (so that means all ports in between too)
[TCP] 27030 to 27039 (idem)
=> these are all Steam related ports
[UDP] 27015 and 27020 (default DS port, also used for HLTV)
[TCP] 27015 (you want to forward this for RCON access)
Hope that helps. Let me know how you make out.

for the server to show up on the list.. you only need port 27015 tcp and udp, why do you need steam friends server for a server?! and port 27020 is for hltv.. so accordnig to what you said.. all you need is 27015 udp, and 27015 tcp for rcon...
and port triggering does seem like it would be more secure, but if you have a decent firewall, that really shouldn't matter.

Also, when i acess my router through a browser, and forward ports, there is no option for UDP or TCP. Do you think i need to worry about this?
I tried DMZ'ing my server, with no sucess.
Thanks,

fasga. if you dmz your server and you are certain of the external ip address, it's going to work for external users unless you have a config problem.
you are not going to be able to determine whether others can see your server unless you have a friend from another external internet address try it. if you post the ip here i could test it for you. or send it to me in a pm.
