fps drop pls help-me

Exclamation
Hello!
I have problems with my css server source
At the moment I installed CentOS 5.4 and the server hosting 36 users,
I am beginner in Linux, but with your help we managed to build and install and linux.
for some time I have problems with the server in the sense that a lot less FPS when the server is almost full.
6420 is an Intel Core2Duo processor 2.13 Ghz and 2GB RAM
I followed the tutorial optimization but I afraid not to pick from the start!
I installed and Debian, but I Fps 1000 as when I was 30-36 for users drop sharply to 40-50 fps.
centos now grows over 495 Fps not idle and 30 users 40-50 Fps!
please help me or find any cause.
CPU never reaches 100%

Thank you and please excuse my English

cpu is not strong enough

lower the tickrate or the amount of slots and you should be fine

Too much context switching. You can't do that much tickrate with that many users.

you are running 36 game servers on that machine? there is no way to get the fps stable then...

I have a single server cs source of 36 players, I would have liked, but goes even worse 40 players
Initially I had an Intel P4 HT 3GHZ with which you all so many players and this process goes like worse than a P4.
should I change processor? what CPU advised me to put on the Socket 775 as a reasonable cost! 4 cores or 2 cores

Thanks!

dont forget ... hl is not multi processing ... if you start an process its only for one CPU. when the cpu is to low you will get results like that.

ah ok :-)
peter_pan is right. if you want to run only one server, pick a cpu that is fastest per core. for the 775 socket this is probably the E8600, closely followed by the 8500. pay attention, clock speeds cannot be compared between different series. i.e. the E7600 will probably be slower than the E8400 though it has a faster clock speed (but only half of the cache!).
but don't expect any wonders. running big servers with a high quality is not an easy task. you will have to do some compromise like reducing fps and tickrate. the latter is also important for the clients, very few client pc will be able to handle 40 slots at tick 100...

Yes thank you! I will try changing the processor with a small series of 8400-8600 eventually hope to play decent overclock and almost any map without having to reduce the performance very much!

forget overclocking. you have to be very lucky if you want to actually gain something while maintaining stability...

Specifically I can bring a level of 8400 to 8600 ????? difference is 300 MHz.
You change the current processor with an Intel Core2Duo 8400, hoping for a stabilization of fps's and provide a quality server for 36-40 players and tickrate 66.
If you think that will work well enough server please tell me what to do for a decent server with 36-40 players out of certain components decreases tickrate on 33.Ce should be more performance? CPU, RAM or HDD?
I7 series can not speak because it is a neprofessional server and your replacement is made fun and processing costs on a platform does not justify the effort.
Thanks!

maybe, maybe not. that highly depends on all used components (ram, mainboard, etc.) and on luck (i.e. how good the cpu is you get). I am saying is you cannot count on a successful overclocking. I once tried to overclock an E6600, I got it up by ~100 MHz, not more, even then the stability wasn't very good anymore.

the cpu has the biggest impact on the performance, ram and mainboard also have some influence. hdd has absolutely no influence (apart from map loading times).

if you think of changing more components, you should consider buying an i5 750. that cpu can be overclocked very good (if you choose an appropriate mainboard), it has even by default a foreseen overclocking possibility if only one core is used (from 2.4 to 3.0 GHz). and the cpu itself is even cheaper than a E8600.

BehaartesEtwas is right ....

the most of this buisness ist luck ... you have to find out for all gameservers the best conditions

normally you can get good results for the most of gameserver but if you need performance for 32 people its not so easy. you can try to slow down the tick, but noone wants this. but if you want to keep the 32 people with good FPS you should use a newer CPU I7 860 or 920 (because of newer technology and more performance) or older with more MHZ E8600 e.g.

maybe even the i5 with smaller numbers are better, they have only 2 cores but a faster clock speed... but also a different core name. I am not sure if there are any technical differences apart from clock speed and number of cores...

BehaartesEtwas: not 100% true > the i5 750 has 4 cores and its cheap.
