Buying new server needs input on the hardware

If you're collocating a server with that power supply and those processors you're going to have to pay extra for power...

I know my single I7 with 500watt PSU pulls ~2amps on 115v.

Just things to think about... + the I7's hyper threading really doesn't help with game servers, go for an upper end Q series, or an upper end i5... 300watt PSU and 4 gigs of RAM... Throw it in a cheap 2U case ( $60 ) ebay.

Look at a lot of Dell series PowerEdge servers too see what they are using, there is no need for super high watt PSU's unless you're running inefficient quad processors... What you need to focus on is redundancy.

And if its going to be in a server, no need for silent case fans... If you have ever been in a data center you will know why.

Have come some more forward in my plans. But a thailand trip delays it for three month
What disk type is to recomend?
Any idea to run raided disks for performance?

Edit: Will low rpm (5400) disks make the box perform much worse? I realy does not know how much the disk is used!

It doesn't really matter what sort of disk you get as long as you just run SRCDS servers. Disable the page file and your good to go (SWAP if using linux).

I have a full RAID-10 with WD SATA drives, but I host websites so meh.

If you want to get performance out of your raid put it in raid 0/striped

RAID0 is not true raid as there is no redundancy with RAID0, furthermore you have something around a 50% more chance of data corruption/drive failure using RAID0.

RAID1 will give you more read I/O then one drive would, but you have the value of one drive in terms of write I/O.

If you can afford it, RAID10 would be your best bet. Otherwise go RAID1.
