Boosting FPS on L4D servers?
#1
I wonder if there's any way to boost FPS on a Left 4 Dead server, since it's locked on 30.

I've read that.

Server OS: Windows XP SP3 32bit
Processor: Mobile DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo T5800
Ram: 2 gb
Game(s): it's obvious.
Start Up Command: -game left4dead -tickrate 33 -pingboost 3 -port 27016 +map c5m5_bridge -console
Admin Mods: Metamod v1.8 and Sourcemod with basic admin plugins and a few tools that does not really affect anything.

UPD: TF2 and CSS servers are running fine with tick100 and 512 fps, but how do i boost them up to 1000 if it's possible on my hardware?

I don't think this is possible for l4d...

For boosting to 1000fps you're going to need a different operating system... Debian runs 1000fps out of the box, and so does server 2008.
Windows 7 does as well, but isn't a very good game server OS, unless you disable all the bullcrap.

I know what to disable on core v6 based systems so that's no problem. But what i exactly need, is to run these servers on XP.

And i don't care how to boost fps on l4d, i just need it Big Grin

You can't run more than 512 FPS on XP or 2003.

You can't run over 30 in L4D or L4D2 because of the engine limits.

Oh, and 66 tick.

The question is up again. I want to boost my server performance as much in top as possible. Since there's a 512 fps limit on XP/2003, what else can i do?
Oh and yes, tick 30 is also a limit. (or is it 33? some pls confirm)

What would you recommend?

Why would you want more FPS? 33hz is fine.

Problem with Windows, is that you can't do much at all to increase the performance. Besides, "performance" is mesures how on a L4D server? It's not like a CSS war server exaclty.

Actually you can boost the FPS in L4D2 I'm doing it on both of my servers(Windows XP) . I had thought the same thing and was bummed as my CSS server is 500 fps 100 tick , so i expected similar with the L4d2 servers i set up .

I'm not positive but it seems to be source mod that allows you to unlock it .Once I installed source mod I used the cvar sm_cvar fps_max 0 and the fps went from 30's fps to 500 + (amd dual core limit).

As far as performance the pings were lower somehow but it was smooth and as in source games the register was right on . Heard also that the max tick rate is 66 so i added that to the startup cant really tell if it works or not but the performance of the server in general definitely improves significantly .

You don't need to be boosting L4D engine, it's fine the way it is. It's not like it's the source engine, and even then boosting source just sucks up large amounts of CPU time from the server and doesn't do anything except suck more resources.
