Hi everyone, I have questions about hosting multiple instances of SRCDS on a dedicated box.
- CPU is Q9300
- OS is CentOS
- (The rest of the spec are pretty standard, so I am not posting them)
I am planning to host three instances of TF2 with it, and here is what I am going to do:
- Create three user accounts for each instance of TF2
- Use taskset to affinity those three instances of TF2, each to a different core
Regarding taskset, I searched this forum, and found a good suggestion from a member named Svuppe (link), which I am going to try. Yet, I am new to Linux, and to set CPU 0 as default for all other processes, and 1 - 3 for each TF2 instances, how should I do it?
Also, I read this thread (link) and would like to ask:
(In case Steam forum is down, the above thread suggests turning off HT, as it would cause performance issues)
- Better to turn off HT, ture?
- So for the Q9300, real cores would be (0, 2, 4, 6), and HT would be (1, 3, 5, 7)?
Last thing (for now ), can any of the experienced admins let me know what other things that I need to do? (Besides recompling the kernel. Maybe in the future, but not now for me)
Your help is much appreciated!
P.S.
Sorry for being lazy and not trying to figure them out by doing my own trial and error, but doing so I would probably be wasting my hosting money of the first month.
